How futures hedging works
Lock guaranteed profit
Bet enough on the other outcome(s) so that you profit regardless of result. Ideal when your original bet has moved significantly in your favour.
Partial hedge
Hedge only a portion of your exposure. You still profit more if your original bet wins, but you guarantee at least some return if it loses.
Break even
Hedge just enough so that if your futures bet loses, you recover your original stake. You keep all the upside if it wins.
When to hedge
The ideal hedge moment is when your futures bet has appreciated significantly — you can lock in profit that exceeds your original stake many times over.
Multiple teams still alive?
This calculator works best for a clean 2-way hedge — your team vs. a single "field" or opponent. If there are multiple teams still alive (e.g. 4 teams left in the playoffs), most books won’t offer a simple "field" bet at clean odds.
